No idea how much I gained but BIG WEIGHT OFF this week cuz I’m on the tail end of this diabolical cold I’ve had all week and, AND after having to push my appt 3 times bc bed-level sick... i got my first dose of the covid vaccine today 🤭☺️
After too many sleepless google-filled nights, I decided late third trimester was a good time to get it to protect me and the baby at birth. Better than waiting/ hiding in a high transmission area hoping not to be exposed - impossible with two kids at camp and nev who takes cheek to cheek selfies w strangers everyday 🙄 haha.
Was I mildly embarrassed to be getting my first shot in a waiting room full of blue hairs waiting for their third “booster”? YES OMG haha. But their chatter calmed my nerves. As did the pharmacist who was laughing about all these 80 year old cuties lying to get more shots and shaking his head at the vernacular of the “booster” which is actually just the same as the 2nd shot.

Anyway I’ve been debating disclosing my vax status for awhile. It’s the single most asked question across every one of my social media platforms and for good reason! Pregnant women are being asked to make a largely uninformed decision with a lot of very scary variables. I say uninformed because the information doesn’t quite exist yet. Being pregnant puts you at a slightly higher risk for bad covid, that seems largely agreed upon. AND some early studies show it’s probably OK to get an MRNA vaccine while pregnant but even my doctor couldn’t give me a 100% vote of confidence. And when it’s your baby, you don’t want probably ok YOU WANT 100% PERFECTLY FINE. But you also don’t want to die of covid and leave your children motherless. Another potential outcome of this terrible situation. So, you know, that’s sobering to a sober asf pregnant lady. And the SWOT analysis is very individual depending on where you live and what you do (which is what my doctor ultimately advised...weigh the cost/benefit “HOW SAFE ARE YOU” and go from there). Protect yourself. Protect your baby.
Let’s be clear, if i weren’t pregnant I’d have gotten vaxxed in April as soon as I could. But I WAS pregnant so that makes things a bit more complicated and until today I was very happy with my pregnant plan. I had covid last year and tested positive for antibodies while pregnant. Everyone around me is vaccinated and I live in a highly vaccinated area. Numbers were low and dropping. I felt I could safely mask indoors, avoid crowds and wait until after delivery to get the vaccine (and pass antibodies on to my baby (and maybe even my other kids) via breast milk.
Well then delta came. Numbers are rising fast and I’m now in a high transmission area (along with a lot of the country). I know several vaccinated people who got covid (meaning the bubble pad of vaccinated people surrounding me is an illusion...they might not get very sick but i potentially could). Y0ung people are dying at higher rates. There are less public protections in place. It’s scary. Today my son woke up with a terrible cough so I took him to be tested (a four hour line!) and he was negative but i was ALSO negative for everything (including antibodies). My plan suddenly sucks.
The third trimester is the most dangerous time to get covid. The pandemic climate has changed. I want the vaccine. The risk of waiting is greater than the benefit (i think) But getting the vaccine today STILL wouldn’t protect me in time to deliver. (With 4 weeks between shots I’d be due for my second shot so close to my due date that my antibodies likely wouldn’t kick in til after birth).
So basically if I get the vaccine today OR wait 6 weeks, I’m still a sitting duck. I’m avoiding everyone like the literal plague and freaking out every time someone (nev*) leaves the house. It’s awful. Not as awful as the most awful scenario but the fear is real and seeping into every moment of every day. I’ve lost it.
So there’s my Sunday scaries turned Monday scaries brain. Please don’t yell at me for my previous plan (or current indecision). I’ll probably get vaxxed this week rather than wait the planned 6. Hibernating either way. Being pregnant is hard. Being human is hard. We’re all doing the best we can.
Fuck covid. Stay as safe as you can. No one is is invincible. Not even me! (Shocking i know, lol)

So good to be back in New York in my backlit bathroom. Photos a lil soft and romantic but they match my mood perfectly. Dounia’s Lavender on repeat. Give her a listen and you’ll blink slower the rest of the day, promise.
But could also be something in the air. I took the ferry home from my hospital scan today and caught myself inside the most blissful moment. The baby shifting his weight inside me, warm salty air hugging us, all of us...me and my baby but also everyone on the boat, everyone and everything in the city and for who knows how far. People usually chat and take photos but I noticed today everyone struck silent. Could have been the warm breeze or quiet beauty of the city from afar. Could have been something entirely beyond our recognition. Still, the Chrysler building broke my heart for the thousandth time. God she’s beautiful.
For all the physicality of pregnancy (the stretching skin, heaving belly, exhaustion, back pain...the list goes on) there are also so many airy transcendent moments where you feel deeply connected to the universe and everything in it. Today was a lucky one.

Squinting to see any difference but I’m not mad at it
37 weeks pregnant mom of twins flexed on me a bit at dinner last night. “How far along are you?”, she asked rubbing her belly. “Must be your first baby.” Which was funny bc my son was behind her grabbing handfuls of french fries directly out of the giant catering bin with his tiny lil dirt hands. I didn’t correct her or try to get him to stop. (He only needed 4 handfuls to fill his plate and was on his way, why spoil this woman’s perception of me for a half-hearted helicopter scold???)
But ultimately it was a belly size flex with a pinch of
experience flex. Rightfully smug. I had no qualms. She’d come a long way and her bump was majestically enormous. I would have done anything for her.
The biggest shock of the night was when a casual acquaintance of hers walked up WHILE SHE WAS EATING and initiated an unauthorized DOUBLE HAND TOUCH which turned into a full on DOUBLE HAND RUB for their entire conversation...3 mins?...about... tennis. The pregnant woman serenely allowed it. Didn’t even flinch. Legend.
If someone rubbed my belly while eating I would dribble food on it on purpose. Hot soup would be ideal but would settle for syrup or honey. Even a quick dribble of spit to increase the embarrassment. “Omg I’m so sorry!” 😳😏 But, ya know, I still got that small bump mentality. Apparently it’s time to level up.

These side by sides always blowin my mindddd. Fun to get a visual sense of why I’m feeling how I’m feeling week to week. Week 29 I was exhausted (and look at that major belly change / position shift to week 30!) and now I’m feeling more winded with a lung and rib crunch (and you can see how the belly expands upwards between weeks 30 and 31).
Overall still feeling “good” but I’ve definitely slowed down and the hardest part of my workouts is standing up after a floor exercise 🥲.
Two unauthorized belly touchers so far this week. One with a full two-handed cup! 🙄 haha

Not a ton of updates besides my once questionably high sex drive has plummeted to Dead Sea levels (an OF faux pas!) Gonna blame my pre-pregnancy obsession w high-waisted lingerie but we all know it’s cuz u can’t 🎠 like u wanna w a big hiccuping belly. Also my lungs starting to crunch up in there. Will salt-mud wrestle anyone who says they “love sex” at 8 months pregnant.
But BUT the upside is the same as it’s always been. It’s summer. No need to chafe the popping belly button w heavy jackets AND I can live vicariously through some of these DMs. Y’all freaks and I’m here for it. Keep em cominggggg. Haha 💞🖤💞

I weigh 132 in all of these pictures which means I’m doing ok! Guess the bigger baby/ shrunken stomach helped slow me down a bit and I’m right at the low level of healthy weight gain. So now mayyybe I won’t have complications w a too big baby? (remember that dr that freaked me out week 8?)
The reality of delivery is inching near and never been nervous before but with the minor complication with my son I’m a little more aware that things don’t always go as planned.
But we’ve got awhile to go anyhow! Gonna keep powering my crystals and focusing on other things. No use overthinking (she says while overthinking) haha
