"I'm not afraid to die. I'd do anything to get you humans out of my forest!" 🐺🗡🌳
Mononoke, or more accurately San, is a fierce and independent warrior raised by wolves in Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke (1997). Abandoned as a baby, she was taken in by the wolf goddess Moro and grew up rejecting human civilization, viewing herself as a wolf rather than a human. San fights relentlessly to protect the forest from human destruction, particularly against Lady Eboshi and the forces of Iron Town, who are exploiting natural resources. Though she is initially distrustful of humans, her encounters with Ashitaka, the film’s protagonist, challenge her worldview and force her to confront the complexities of humanity and nature. She remains loyal to the forest, ultimately choosing to live apart from human society while acknowledging her connection to Ashitaka.
