The history of the use of fur, including the Hudson Bay company, is a really long story but basically for like 300 years, the HBC navigated the Northeastern territory of North America creating a massive fur trade. One of the important players was a French guy, Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville, who led an exploration of the area, securing it for the French. If his name sounds familiar it’s because he’s also the same dude who explored the Mississippi and with his brother, founded New Orleans for France.
